With the spirit of an angel, Star Rose, 7lb 21.5 inches long, arrived looking just like her big brother SJ. She has long fingers, legs, and feet, rosie full cheeks, and a head full of black curly hair and three “angel kisses” on her face. She was/is the perfect and final addition to our family. Just six days shy of her due date, she made her entrance. Saturday will make a month and one week since her birth. Let me tell you the most cliche statement ever “time is going sooo fast”.
Star’s birth story is my favorite out of the three of my children. My labor began after I did some obstacle courses ( created by me) at my local mall, this has worked with both SJ and Sparkle. Walking/running the mall close to delivery is my “get this baby out of me signature”. After this, I was still not dilated so I had to kick things up a notch. Can you imagine a very pregnant lady, 39 weeks to be exact, running up and down the stairs at the mall? Well, that was me, I ran until I could barely catch my breath. All the bystanders were chuckling and making comments about how funny I looked, trying to get the baby out. Two days after that, it was GO time. The kids ended up catching up a cold, (talk about bad timing) so I spent most of the time in bed cuddling with them. By the way, we ended our time before delivery as a family of four, cuddled in bed. It was perfect until those contractions started to come IN. The kid’s eyes were popping out of their sockets, their faces filled with mixed feelings, excitement, and nervousness.
I was loosing my entire mind and Stephen was upset with me. You see I have a very low tolerance for pain, I mean low. He knows this so he tries to prepare + help me, especially when it comes to labor. The entire day, he kept saying let’s go to the hospital and check but I was scared they would send me back home “I said let’s just wait” for hours. Since SJ and Sparkle were feeling a little sick I was a little weary of leaving them like that. They get so needy when they are sick, especially Sparkle. She and I cuddled all day. Minus the cold, it was nice spending my last day with as the baby cuddling.
But back to me being in active labor and not even knowing.I thought they were Braxton Hicks until I timed them and they started coming two minutes apart. I waited until I became Stephen’s worse nightmare. I was screaming, banging on the car door and a few other things I won’t mention. The funniest moment was me threatening to throw his pizza out of the window. Only my husband would be eating pizza while driving his wife who is in actor labor. Gotta love him! Between him driving like maniac, my contractions coming in, and the smell of his pizza, I was calling on JESUS the entire ride to the hospital. By the time we arrived and checked in to the hospital, I was 7 cm. I could not believe how many people wanted to stop and have conversations with me after I told them I was having contractions. I could have punched someone if they asked me another question.
After getting settled, I asked for an epidural. Although I was almost to 10cm I couldn’t take it anymore. I was even asking for my mom. She’s always been in the delivery room with me. This time, Stephen and I agreed that Stella would be in the delivery room with us. Thankfully she arrived just in time! Jokingly but seriously, I told her since she was witnessing this and seeing all of my lady parts we are friends 4 life!!! Shortly after I received my epidural which was the best epidural ever, my butt was so numb it was so weird, but it took all the pain right away!! I don’t remember saying this, but Stella said I kept saying, this epidural tho, da truth!! LOL, knowing me I probably did say that!
With my gospel playlist setting the atmosphere, they instructed me “it was time”! Give me one big push they said, followed by a few more pushes, all I heard was you have a girl!!! TALK ABOUT CRYING, OMG!! I kept saying and thinking how Faithful God is.My mind continued to replay, God you are so Faithful to me! I laid eyes on her and thought to myself, I’m dreaming, he blessed me with the desires of my heart again!
For some reason, it took some time for my placenta to come out. While they were trying to figure it out they took her to weigh her, clean her up and all that good stuff. I was watching from afar, like give me my babyyyy!!! Stephen brought her over for me to look at her until they were all done. But it wasn’t the same, although she was still sleeping and refused to open her eyes up fully, I was longing to do that skin to skin. Her first visitor was my MIL she was in the waiting room with the kids. I remember her walking in hoping she had a few snacks or something I was so hungry!! I even had the audacity to ask Stephen if he had any more pizza. LOL.
I felt so bad the kids couldn’t come in. We didn’t want to take a chance with them coming in with a cold. I know the hospital have masks and stuff but we just allowed them to look at her through the nursery. They loved that!! They stayed at grandmas for two nights before coming home. Talk about overjoyed when I came to pick them up, even SJ was smiling like where is the baby?
